Warners and Rocksteady announce Batman Arkham VR

Be the Batman… no really, BE the Batman in Arkham VR for PlayStation VR.

Hitting exclusively for the PSVR platform, Batman Arkham VR will allow players to virtually put on the bat-suit. If you’ve ever wanted to experience Gotham City though the eyes of its protector, here’s your game. Developed by Rocksteady, which is the same team behind the super-successful Batman Arkham series, this new virtual reality experience will be an all new adventure set in their version of DC Comics’ Batman mythos.

According to Warner Bros, the game’s publisher, you’ll have to think like the Dark Knight in Arkham VR; making use of his gadgets and detective skills to “unravel a plot” set against his allies. From the pr text, it seems as though Batman’s vaunted detective skills will be the main gameplay hook for Arkham VR. That’s fine with me, since they’ve been criminally underused in pretty much every game that he’s been in, pretty much ever.

“Virtual reality is expanding the video game space and entertainment overall, so it is extremely exciting to have our incredible team at Rocksteady Studios dive into this new storytelling medium with the Batman Arkham franchise,” said David Haddad, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.  “Rocksteady is one of the best at creating story-driven content, and Batman: Arkham VR will deliver a more immersive experience than anyone could have imagined only a few years ago.”

“Rocksteady is always looking for new ways to further engross players into the worlds we create and Batman: Arkham VR is an example of how we’re taking advantage of the latest technology to do that,” said Sefton Hill, Game Director, Rocksteady Studios.  “The team is committed to delivering a Batman experience that stays true to the character and allows players to fully immerse themselves in the role of the World’s Greatest Detective.”

Expect to see Batman Arkham VR on PSVR this coming October.
