Death of X might spell trouble for Marvel’s mutants

Big trouble might be on the way for the X-Men…

If you’re a Marvel fan, then chances are that you’re an X-Men (or some variation thereof) fan as well. And if that’s the case, then you might have agreed with a conspiracy theory of sorts that had been making the rounds for a few years prior to the dawn of 2016. Namely, that Marvel (and parent Disney) were slowly killing off the mutant-branded section of the Marvel U since they didn’t hold the movie rights (that’d be Fox).

Here’s the thing though, this year sees the launch of a pair of X-Men movies with Deadpool and X-Men: Apocalypse (both from Fox), and also the appearance of the Apocalypse Wars comic event book this Summer. On top of that, there’s a brand new series of Marvel Legends X-Men action figures on the way as well, AND there’s a new rumor (best taken with a massive grain of salt) that Fox and Marvel might be -at long last- playing nicely and maybe even planning something movie-wise.

So it looks as though the brand is fine and dandy really. And then we’ve got this image to the right.

It popped up today, delivered in true Marvel fashion, with no fanfare, description, or exposition of any kind. What’s it mean? Is it part of a new mega-event titled ‘Death of…’ that the X-Men will be a part of? We have no clue, but there it is nonetheless.

More to come on this one, more than likely come SDCC time.
