7th Dragon III Code: VFD for 3DS announced for North America

This Summer sees the first American release of the Japanese RPG franchise which started on the DS in 2009.

While Nintendo’s 3DS plans are largely unknown for the new year (aside from the likes of Hyrule Warriors Legends and Metroid Prime: Federation Force), SEGA is doing its part to help the handheld maintain momentum with the announcement of 7th Dragon III Code: VFD

The game is the latest of SEGA’s localization efforts, which includes the likes of Yakuza 0 and Valkyria Chronicles Remastered.  While the game is part of the 7th Dragon series, SEGA assures North American players that III Code: VFD is “a self-contained episode,” so curious players should have no issue jumping in.

SEGA promises an “engaging story” wherein dragons are attacking humans in 2100, as well as a “deep party system and character customization options.”  Players will travel across three different places and eras, including the kingdom of Atlantis, present-day Tokyo, and the futuristic capital of the land of Eden.  Players will have up to nine characters in their party while being joined by two of them in the field, and each will be created from 8 different class options, 40 voice options, and 96 appearance options.  Players will also have a home base where they can “develop skills, collect side quests, and even go on dates,” as well as improve it by adding things like a “library, skylounge, and cat café.”

The game will launch in North America this summer on the 3DS.
