More new music arrives for Guitar Hero Live

Live concert footage of some major talent is now live and playable in the latest Guitar Hero title.

In what’s scheduled to be the first in a series of content additions to GHL’s GHTV mode, Activison and FreeStyleGames are giving the game its first infusion of free content. Yes, free content, as in ‘you don’t have to pay anything for it’.

Here’s what’s new:

  • Black Veil Brides Premium Show, which includes playable footage from the band’s live concert DVD “Alive and Burning,” will be live on Friday. The DVD chronicles the band’s first ever recorded live performance during their successful Black Mass Tour in November 2014 at the legendary Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles. Three of the songs from the DVD will be playable in GHTV, including “Heart of Fire (Live)”“Fallen Angels (Live)” and “In the End (Live).
  • Legendary Headliners Premium Show, including “Monster” by Paramore, “Sugar, We’re Goin Down” by Fall Out Boy and “First Date” by Blink-182 is live now.
  • Pop Goes GHTV Premium Show, featuring “Chocolate” by The 1975, “Believer” by American Authors and “Budapest” by George Ezra is live now.

Over 70 new songs will be tacked onto the already existing 200+ tune roster of music by the end of the calendar this year, and all of it will be free to play as long as you have a copy of Guitar Hero Live. The only thing that’s not free are entrance to play Premium Shows.

Those are usually buyable in-game, though most of the songs that make up the Premium Shows are then loaded into the standard rotation after the show ends. So in that way, they’re free to play as well. Here’s a further bit of good news though, as the shows this weekend are totally free thanks to a special promo from Activision.

The deal goes live at 4pm Pacific time today and will actually offer up the whole entire catalog of music, on-demand, for the weekend. So if you’ve put away that shiny new guitar already, bust it out again, because there’s plenty to rock out with over the ext two days.
