Transformers Universe officially cancelled by Jagex

In the works seemingly forever, Transformers Universe is no more.

We profiled Transformers Universe a long time ago, back in 2011 actually, and the game has been slightly… troubled ever since. It definitely has been through some changes too, with retouches here and there right up until a press release in February of this year that detailed some changes that were on the way for the game, and then the beta that opened up for play in July.

And actually, that beta is still going on, and will continue right till the closure of the game on January 31st, 2015. So, with the title in beta, and so much work having gone into it, why shut things down? Well, Jagex isn’t really saying, simply stating that they’re sorry to see the game end and that they’re proud of what they accomplished with it. As for IP owner Hasbro, they’ve officially gone on record about it and added that they will continue to explore new ways to get the transforming robots into games.

Now, if you’re playing Transformers Universe, you’ll notice that the game is in (or will soon be in) a maintenance period. After that, the title will be up and presumably running until the official shutdown date of 1/31/15.
