Blizzard Announces Overwatch at BlizzCon 2014

Blizzard announced a new IP Overwatch, a 6v6 multiplayer shooter, today at BlizzCon. This will be Blizzard’s first new franchise in seventeen years. Good news for Blizzard fans considering the announcement of canceling Titan, another MMORGP, a few months ago.

Overwatch takes place in the near future on Earth and features heroes that include mercenaries, scientists, and oddities. Currently, there are 12 playable characters with more to come and they look like badass superheroes and supervillains. Blizzard decided to push the animation towards a more cartoon, comic style and it works. Gameplay looks amazing. One of the best parts of this game is that players aren’t character locked during matches. This means players can tailor their gameplay to meet whatever style the opposing team has.  IGN’s Mitch Dyer discusses how Overwatch is a constant push-pull of power and how crucial team strategy is. According to Blizzard, every character has a specific role; the four roles are offense, defense, tank, or support. This means no death match for Overwatch because they want the focus to be on team play. This game looks exciting and fresh for Blizzard.

Beta is coming in 2015 and you can sign up for it at playoverwatch.com.
