It’s the history of arcades, in one neat little graphic

The arcade industry has been through a whole mess of ups and downs throughout the medium’s history and arcade supplier M&P Amusement has put together a cool infographic that tells the tale in a fun way.

I can’t even remember the last time I was at an arcade… or even a pizza joint that had a few games. That was the norm back in the 80’s and 90’s when I was awed by the ‘incredible’ graphics and themes that arcade games provided- way better stuff than you could get at home on the NES and the Master System.

Times change though and before long it was the arcades of old that were on the outside looking in at console games and the players who opted to have some buddies over the house for a round of Mortal Kombat instead of shlepping to Ben’s Pizzeria for a round or two.

I don’t think there’s a gamer out there (of age) though, who doesn’t look back on the phenomenon of the arcade with at least a bit of nostalgic want. It was a great age, tons of fun, and actually perpetuated camaraderie a heck of a lot more than online multiplayer does today.

But I digress, because this not-so-little graphic is all about the heyday of the industry, what it’s become, and where it’s going (holy crap 4D games sound awesome). Oh, and if you’re in the market for some arcade games, click on over to M&P, they’ve got some slick stuff.

Enjoy.
