Mr.Freeze chills Gotham to the bone in new Batman: Arkham Origins expansion

Revenge is a dish best served cold in the newest DLC for Batman: Arkham Origins. A Victor Fries origin story with all-new everything? Yes, please.

Wow is there a lot to this one and, as a big Freeze fan from his appearances in the classic Batman: The Animated Series, I’m pretty stoked. More than a simple extra bit of story content for last Fall’s Batman: Arkham Origins, ‘Cold, Cold Heart’ introduces new enemies, new gadgets and a whole new place to traverse as the Dark Knight hunts for a cold-hearted killer.

Unfolding across iconic Gotham City locations, including Wayne Manor, Cold, Cold Heart equips players with the powerful Batman Extreme Environment (XE) suit and new gadgets including the Thermal Gloves and Thermocharged Batarangs. The game introduces several hours of all-new content in which players will battle through punishing, icy landscapes to witness Mr. Freeze’s heart-pumping first encounter with the Dark Knight.

If it’s about Mr. Freeze, count me as interested. Ever since writer Paul Dini and actor Michael Ansara redefined the character as an almost tragic hero on Batman: The Animated Series, I’ve been a huge fan and if there’s a comic to be read or cartoon episode to be watched with the character, I’ll probably check it out.

There’s a lot more to get excited for here than one character though as the Cold, Cold Heart DLC gives players a chance to explore Wayne Manor, don a new costume and use some new gadgets. That’s a lot to like right there, throw in a Mr. Freeze origin story and first encounter with the Batman and you’ve got something that stacks up to be more than your usual DLC offering.

Warner Bros Montreal is promising hours of new gameplay and plenty to do when Cold, Cold Heart hits download services for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC editions of Batman: Arkham Origins on April 22nd. The expansion will cost you $9.99 USD, and is included with the Season Pass for the game if you have it.
