Dementium II HD creeps onto Steam today

Digital Tribe Games brings the Nintendo DS horror classic to PC’s in high-def with Dementium II HD.

Originally developed by Renegade Kid, Dementium II was a breath of fresh air for DS gamers in more ways than one. FPS’ were rare enough on the console, but then to have one that was so steeped in being a survival horror experience? Yeah, that didn’t happen all that often. In fact, I think Dementium II and its prequel were pretty much it as far as scares went on Nintemdo’s handheld.

For the PC release, Digital Tribe Games is promising a brand new experience with “a rebuilt lighting system, updated 3D models, hi-res textures, enhanced audio and refined controls that were never possible in its original incarnation”. Even with that though, the developer promises that fans of the game needn’t worry as this is the same DII at heart.

“We wanted to preserve the feel of the game; its soul,” says Producer Joe de Lange from Memetic, Dementium II HD’s developer. “The single biggest challenge was the fact that playing on the PC is a very different experience compared to playing on the DS. We spent a lot time working to get that balance right.”

So all in all, what’s new? Here’s your rundown of what you can expect to see in the PC edition of Dementium II:

  • Steam Big Picture Mode with full controller support, Steam Achievements and Cloud Saves on Day 1 – plus a twisted series of Steam Trading Cards coming soon after launch
  • Classic gameplay that balances action, exploration, story and puzzle elements into a single, unforgettable horror experience
  • Hordes of unique, nightmarish enemies that require different strategies to defeat – plus ghostly new creatures that will chill you to the bone
  • Twisted storyline that keeps you guessing throughout the entire game
  • Multifunctional weapons to take out enemies and grant access to new areas
