The Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer hits the web

Spidey fans, get ready to hit ‘pause’ a lot.

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead. It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

Okay so, yes we have Electro and Rhino (who looks pretty awesome as a big, bad mech) and the Goblin (in some form), but there are also a heck of a lot of hints at more villains in the TASM2 trailer that Sony just released this morning. Pausing when one of the labs at Oscorp makes it’s appearance at around 1:18, I noticed Vulture’s wings and Doc Ock’s tentacles pretty plainly. Since OsCorp is being set up as an overarching villainous force, it makes sense that they’d be involved in the creation of guys like Toombs (Vulture) and Octavius, who could easily be an OsCorp scientist.

And while we’re hinting at all these bad guys (and Rhino and Electro are already in the movie- maybe Shocker too) just how far-fetched is it that a third film in the series might hold the cinematic arrival of one of the most famous teams of villains in comic book history with the Sinister Six? As a fan of classic Spider-Man tales -especially from the ’80s and ’90s, I really hope so. Aside from the Six though, I’m jazzed that this new series looks like they’re handling Norman Osborn correctly and setting him up as a kind of puppet-master.

There’s probably going to be a lot more revealed up till the May 2nd, 2014 launch date for the film, so stay tuned Spidey fans.
