Super-sized TV’s take the most-wanted spot for gifts this year

What would you rather have- a piece of expensive jewelry or an 84″ LG TV? The answer for a good number of people might surprise you.

I probably wouldn’t have guessed this one, but according to electronics giant LG it’s the truth; people are more willing to spend on a big, bad TV than a trip to Europe, an expensive watch or a piece of high-end jewelry. A majority totaling 52% of those polled (which included 42% of women) across the US said they’d happily dispense with the trips and baubles for a monster of a TV in the living room or den.

LG took the poll to better take a look at consumer spending and gifting habits and released the results just in time for the 2014 Holiday shopping season. While the above numbers are basically folks talking about themselves, LG also says that a pretty impressive 58% of people polled said they would consider giving a TV as a gift, which I think I find more surprising than anything else released.

It’s a number that’s very telling though and I probably shouldn’t be too surprised by it to be honest. The televisions that we view our content on are becoming just as important as the game consoles and blu-ray players that are attached to them as of late. With 1080p becoming the norm and 3D and even 4k getting to places where more and more people are talking about them like things that they’re looking for in a TV, I guess it should really come as no surprise that televisions aren’t just things that you buy for yourself anymore. After all, what makes for a better gift than getting to enjoy all the content that you already like, but better?

Have a peek at the below info graphic for more and uh, maybe start rethinking that Holiday shopping list…
