Solid Snake gets an ‘A’ list voice for Metal Gear Solid V

Well, it’s official- David Hayter is out as Solid Snake. Yes, technically we already knew that, but fan’s dreams die hard and some were holding out for Hayter to return to the role. So who’s in, if he’s out? How’s some A list Hollywood talent sound?

You know him best as tough-talking federal agent Jack Bauer on TV’s 24 – yep, Kiefer Sutherland is Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Bringing in a star the level of Sutherland is a pretty big deal for the franchise, who’s never really gone the ‘celebrity’ route for voicework before. I have to say though, I’m already liking the result. The motion capture work that Konami is doing with Sutherland, translating his facial movements onto Solid Snake is really impressive. As to whether his voice can take the place of the original Solid Snake David Hayter, well – it’s best to take a look and see for yourself. For me personally, and I’ve been a Metal Gear fan since the first ‘Solid’ installment on the PSOne, I’m thinking it’s a pretty phenomenal fit for the character.

If you’re only interested in the MGSV portion of the presentation skip ahead to 10:30 on the timeline. Though even if you do that, I recommend going back and checking out the rest as Konami had a very cool look at Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2… among other things.
