Magrunner: Dark Pulse trailer released

Action puzzle games are pretty few and far between, but Focus Home Interactive’s Magrunner: Dark Pulse is looking like a very interesting addition to the genre.

In the near future, in 2050, a handful of young and brilliant citizens have been chosen by Gruckezber Corporation to join the Magtech training program for space exploration. Equipped with a special glove using Gruckezberg’s technology, the candidates have to solve their way through a huge maze of challenge rooms, by magnetically charging objects that will attract or repel each other. But when an earthquake disrupts the training program, what seemed to be the chance of a lifetime for the candidates will soon become a descent into folly and cosmic horror! In this video, plunge with Dax, the hero of the game, into a future where Technology confronts the Cthulhu Mythos!

I’ve seen a few preview screens for Magrunner since it was announced, but for some reason I never realized there was a connection to H.P.Lovecraft’s Cthulhu horror fiction or that it was going to have the level of story that it looks like it does. The game certainly takes on a whole new level of cool with that in mind.

Not that it wasn’t cool already mind you. Chock full of physics puzzles and platforming (and some pretty sharp graphics), Magrunner is starting to look like a real winner.

Stay tuned, Magrunner: Dark Pulse is expected to arrive some time this year for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
