Wii U Ditching Friend Codes

Wave your string of numbers goodbye!

In a move that many will welcome, the Wii U will see an end to the friend code system that the Wii and 3DS had, allowing you to create your own account names to use for friends lists.  Users will be able to store multiple IDs on the system, allowing for your entire household to have their own accounts.

On the subject of the friend codes, a Nintendo spokesperson told Destructoid “Our plan is replace Friend Codes with a much more user-friendly Account ID system, which employs user-created account names.”

So, if you’re tired of having to give out ridiculous strings of numbers to add friends to your Nintendo system, the Wii U would appear to be putting an end to it.  Hurrah!
