A recent Microsoft filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission has revealed that the company intends to launch both Windows 8 and their recently announced Surface tablet around the end of October 2012.
The filing reads, “The next version of our operating system, Windows 8, will be generally available on October 26, 2012. At that time, we will begin selling the Surface, a series of Microsoft-designed and manufactured hardware devices,”.
While the launch of Surface is somewhat interesting to gamers, due to the tablet’s support of Xbox Live and XBLA games, recent talk among video game developers has revealed that Windows 8 is not exactly going to be welcomed with open arms. Valve’s Gabe Newell described the upcoming operating system as a “catastrophe for everybody in the PC space“, and Blizzard’s Rob Pardo added that it is “not awesome for Blizzard either“.
Good, bad, or ugly, it appears that Windows 8 and the Surface tablet is coming soon. We will let you know as soon as Microsoft drops the official details.
