Joe is heading to a mobile device near you soon.
British based studio Hello Games have announced that they are developing a version of their stunt racer game Joe Danger for the iOS and Android platforms.
In an interview with Gamasutra, Hello Games co-founder Sean Murray was keen to stress that the iOS version is not simply a port of the original game, stating that “Joe Danger on iOS is a new game, and it’s been written from the ground up for iPhone.”
The game will feature controls that make use of the touch screen functionality. “Swiping in Temple Run, slashing fruit in Fruit Ninja or pulling back a catapult in Angry Birds are controls that are best on a touchscreen. I hate the virtual D-pad, it never feels right to me. It feels like something that only exists to make porting games easier.”
Murray gave some examples as well, “You swipe the screen to make Joe wheelie, you nudge him in the air to affect his gravity, you can flick a barrier out of the way, or wrestle with the shark in the shark tank. You have such control that levels that would be impossible on console are much easier on the touchscreen.”
No release date had currently been set, but the game is playable at PAX East, if you happen to be heading there. The full sequel to the console version, ‘Joe Danger: The Movie’, is scheduled to be released sometime this year.
