SEGA Reports 6.6% Decline In Net Income For 9 Months Ended Dec 31, 2011

SEGA Sammy reported their nine month financial results this morning, revealing an overall net income of ¥34.4 billion (down 6.6% from the same period in the prior year), with total sales up 0.5% to ¥311.7 billion.

The company’s drop in profit was a direct result in a decline in their video game business, with the Consumer Business division reporting ¥64,101 million (a decrease of 4.9%) and an operating loss of  ¥5,509 million (compared to an operating income of ¥2,811 million for the same period in the previous fiscal year). SEGA noted that their home video game software sales were generally “solid” in Japan, but the sales of new titles “remained slow” in overseas markets.

SEGA’s top sellers for the period were Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games with 2.3m units on the Wii, and Sonic Generations with 1.6m units sold across the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and 3DS.
