Hudson Soft “To Be Dissolved”

Veteran Japanese developer to be absorbed.

Konami has announced that developer Hudson Soft will be formally dissolved on March 1st 2012.  The company will be absorbed into Konami Digital Entertainment, in a move that was approved by Hudson board members in a meeting on January 12th.

Hudson were founded in 1973 and are perhaps best known for creating the Bomberman series and Bonk, as well as developing Mario Party for Nintendo.  Konami fully acquired Hudon’s shares in April 2011, and are currently mainly focussed on mobile content.  The mobile division will be taken over by Konami Digital Entertainment.  No news on whether any of Hudson’s IPs will be retained or not.

Mike is Brutal Gamer's Indie Editor. He has been playing video games since the early 90s and is fond of racing games, puzzlers and MMOs. Typing /played while in WoW makes him cry, but not enough to stop him playing some more.

Not that I was the biggest Hudson fan, but I always hate it when these long time players in the video game industry lose their identity or drop out of the game.

    It just never feels right.
