Rumor: PS Vita Will Not Launch In The UK Until Next Year

CVG is reporting that a “senior retail source” close to Sony Computer Entertainment has told them that the company is considering pushing back the launch of the PlayStation Vita in the U.K. until January or February 2012.

The source claims that Sony is still “hopeful” that they will be able to launch the Vita before Christmas 2011 in the U.S., but it is looking more and more likely that they will have to give the Holiday shopping season to the 3DS in the U.K..

“Sony knows it’s effectively gifting the festive handheld market to 3DS – but is still really confident of a success. The overall strategy is that they want the hardcore to buy first and then spread the word. It’s a blow for us, but they think they can still do that in the UK without the Christmas sales boost.” – Unnamed Source

This rumor would not surprise me one bit if it turned out to be true, and to tell you the truth it also would not surprise me if Sony delayed the Vita launch in the U.S. until next year. The PSP saw it’s strongest support in Japan and I have to think that Sony is going to focus on their home turf first and then branch out from there.
