Mass Effect 3 Confirmed With Possible 2011 Release

A third Mass Effect 2 was already confirmed, but according to Mass Effect 2 project director Casey Hudson we’ll see it within 2 years.

With Mass Effect 2 released next Tuesday, it seems Bioware are already looking ahead to trilogising the Mass Effect series. In a mini-interview with MTV, Casey Hudson spoke about capping off a Mass Effect trilogy (but if Halo’s anything to go by, I doubt 2011 will see the end of Mass Effect).

“We’re already working on ‘Mass Effect 3′ right now. We do want to develop it in concert with listening to the way people are experiencing ‘Mass Effect 2′. We’ve got a lot of DLC coming out for ‘Mass Effect 2′ that we’re also working on, and then we’ll kind of blend that into developing and finishing ‘Mass Effect 3′. We don’t want to take forever with it. We want people to be able to conclude this trilogy that have been with us over the years… [Development will be] along the same kind of time frame as ‘Mass Effect 2′.”

It seems Bioware are eager to push a third Mass Effect out within two years of the second, and since Mass Effect 1 was released a shade over two years before Mass Effect 2 will be it would make sense in terms of releasing. However, given the depth and size of Mass Effect and the expectation that Mass Effect 2 will be (here’s hoping) bigger and better, will a push for a fairly quick third game be the best move? While Hudson doesn’t confirm a push for a 2011 release, referencing the time frame of release between 1 & 2 would mean that a 2011 may be on the cards.

One thing’s for sure: expect a third and final (again, I doubt this very much) Mass Effect game before 2013.
