Our Top 5 games to watch out for in 2010
Oooh it’s that time of year again – time for lists, charts and all that jazz
So the death bell toll has not exactly been rung on 2009 just yet but with a crazed Assassin and some shit faced Zombies on the horizon the big hitters for 2009 have almost finished. So with that the team here at BG have started giving some serious thought to what is going to rock our, and hopefully your, gaming world in 2010. Here is what we came up with.
Moosehound
1) Heavy Rain
This looks absolutely gorgeous and has been on my radar since Quantic made cryptic murmurs of a new game way before and platform was announced. My play through at Eurogamer just heightened my need for this title!2) Brink
Anyone who has actually seen Brink running MUST be placing this in their top 5 – 10 games to look out for in 2010. Splash Damage are doing an incredible job so far and I just can not wait to see how it plays first hand – Watch for it!3) Bioshock 2
I loved the first Bioshock – LOVED it! It pulled me back in to gaming at a time I was so fed up with playing yet another bloody FPS. So the sequel has me excited but also very trepidatious – please don’t fuck it up guys!4) Last Guardian
ICO was one of my favourite titles on the PS2, hell off all time really. So with the announcement of this I was just totally hooked from the first screens. Should be nothing less than amazing I guarantee it.
5) God of War 3
Massive fan of the 3 other GoW titles. Sure it is very generic and just a iteration on the old Double Dragon / Ninja Warriors style of game but it is so well done and looks so damn good I just can’t resist.
6) Mass Effect 2
First title was great, not perfect, but great in so many ways. Playing this for even the shortest of time at Eurogamer confirmed that Bioware have fixed most, if not all the issues with the first game and this should be an epic space adventure.
7) Battlefield Bad Company 2
OoohRah! Never wanted to say that before in my life but BF:BC made me wanna shout it loads – great game and the sequel is looking like a giant step up from that – bring it on Dice!
Viatrophy
1. Halo Reach
2. Heavy Rain
3. Battlefield: Bad Company 2
4. Bioshock 2
5. Crackdown 2
6. Mass Effect 2
I couldn’t keep it to 5.
Ognawk
1. Crackdown 2
The original Crackdown is one of my favourite 360 games, the co-op being particularly fun. 4-player co-op for the sequel? Sign me up!2. World of Warcraft: Cataclysm
I’ve started to get back into World of Warcraft lately after a break of sorts, and this expansion looks very interesting.3. Splinter Cell: Conviction
I haven’t really been that sold on the Splinter Cell series, but having seen Conviction in action, I’m quite looking forward to seeing what the whole game can offer.4. Heavy Rain
Visually stunning and the amount of variety in what can you do should make this a different experience. Will be interested to see how this game holds together as a package.5. Just Cause 2
The original Just Cause was underrated in my opinion, I thought it was a cracking game. Hopefully there will be more variety in the environments this time around.
Spoon
1. Final Fantasy 13
Number 1 because this is the series that made me a gamer. This is probably my favourite series of anything. Ever.1. Halo Reach
Number 1 because I am an unashamed Halo fanboy. There are very few developers that put as much polish on their games as Bungie.1. The Last Guardian
Number 1 because each game in this Trilogy gets is just better than the last, and that says a lot when you start off with a great game like Ico.1. Battlefield: Bad Company 2
I have to admit, this made my number 1 because of the multiplayer. It can be so rewarding yet so unbelievably frustrating at the same time.1. Fallout: New Vegas
Bethesda. RPG. Period.1. Gears of War 3
One can hope, can’t he?
CodinthePocket
1. Brink – Intuitive, original first person shooter that looks like it will be a big but great time-sinker.
2. Splinter Cell: ConViction – cI have been psyched for this game for 3 years, and now it’s finally coming and it’s everything I imagined it to be, I cannot wait.
3. God of War 3 – It’s freakin’ God of War 3! ‘Nuff said.
4. Heavy Rain – It looks great, it’s very original, clever, fantastic idea, looks to be very well implemented, and David Cage is so cool that I feel I should buy the game both for how good the game is and to honour his awesomeness.
5. Split/Second – Looks and plays great, not your average joe racer, very fun, with a lot of potential.
And a 6th because it was too damn hard to make a top 5 with these 6 games:
6. Crackdown 2 – Crackdown was awesome, and Crackdown 2 looks bigger and better. And orbs are back. Hopefully the change in developer won’t ruin it.
Worthy mentions: Gran Turismo 5, APB, Bioshock 2, Lost Planet 2, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Epic Mickey, Aliens vs Predator, Bad Company 2, I Am Alive, LA Noire, F1 2010, Mass Effect 2, No More Heroes 2, Red Dead Redemption, Rage, Halo Reach, MAG, Ghost Recon Predator, Star Wars: The Old Republic & Singularity.
Oh, and Matt Hazard: Blood Bath & Beyond, which is going to be an arcade sequel on the PSN & XBLA, going from 3D to 2D, with co-op, and a difficulty setting called “Fuck This Shit”.
It’s going to be a damn good year for games.
Keats
Splinter Cell Conviction
Mass Effect II
Red Dead Redemption
Just Cause II
Can’t think of a fifth so…
Assassins Creed III![]()
And there you have it. I asked every member of the team to list 5 games from next year and give a brief description of why… as you can see only one of them could manage that simple task.. so take from that what you will. I have to agree with COD, next year should be a blazing time for content, and that is just the stuff we currently know about.
