Criterion coded Need for Speed confirmed – Finally!

A ray of light in EA’s poor financial announcements was that it has finally been confirmed that Criterion are working on a Need for Speed title and it will be out next year.  So this was almost a given but it was nice of EA’s  label president Frank Gibeau to confirm it in their Q2 earnings announcement :-

“In recent years, we failed to put adequate resources behind the franchise and, as a result, quality suffered.  Next year’s Need for Speed has been under development now for some time at our award-winning Criterion Studio,”

So will we finally get the Need for Speed we have all been waiting for or will this just be Burnout Paradise 2 with the label scratched out in biro?  Either way with Criterion’s track record you have to have a lot of faith in the product regardless of the label on the box.
