August NPD – Software and Hardware

This is what you’ve all been waiting for.

Okay fanboys around the world, time to put on your argument hats as we finally have our lovely hands on the NPD hardware and software figures for the month of August.

The hardware numbers are the most craved things – I know. Playstation fanboys beware, the results aren’t as you expected. The Xbox 360 sold just over 5,000 more units than Sony’s Playstation 3, however the NPD hasn’t exactly been clear whether that includes the few days of Playstation 3 Slims being sold. However the September numbers will definitely be more interesting due to the new Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 price cuts will be in full affect.

360 – 215.4k
PS3 – 210.0k
PSP – 140.3k
PS2 – 105.9k

Okay, now time for the other rather important figures, top software sales. And was expected, Madden NFL ’10 sold like cake to a fat guy, over both the 360 and PS3 it sold over 1.5 million units.
