Madballs. Remember them? To be honest I don’t really either. Apparently quite a popular toy in the 80’s, they’re making a comeback… on PSN and Xbox LIVE. Babo: Invasion is a “casually hardcore” (their words) arena shooter in which you will control one of a number of newly released Madballs characters. Yes this is a licensed game, however it seems that the team behind it (Playbrains) have put a lot of effort into it previews have been generally positive. The game is multiplayer focused, with 4 player co op, support for up to 16 players at once online and also features support for avatars in the Avatar Attack game mode. It also features what seems to be an arena editor to ensure that games will rarely play out exactly the same. In the press release sent to us about the title, President of Playbrains, Scott Simpson said,

Having spent the past two years of our lives working so hard on MiBI, the entire Playbrains team are so gratified by the response the gaming media have given our game. We always felt that we had a special title on our hands, offering an unprecedented level of gameplay features, options, depth and polish, not yet seen in a digital download title. We are unbelievably proud and excited to finally be able to let players everywhere get their headshot on…”

It certainly looks promising and Avatar support is something a lot of companies are still slow to embrace. Madballs… Babo: Invasion goes live tomorrow on Xbox LIVE Arcade tomorrow, 15th of July for 1200 Microsft Points. Look for a review at Brutal Gamer shortly.
