Make something new Bungie/ IW – is the general word from Gearbox

Now well know Infinity Ward rock – anyone who has played the Call of Duty series of games (excluding the Treyarch ones) know they make a seriously good title.  Like wise as far back ar Marathon on the Mac people have been prasing the goodness that is Bungie.  Although, would you not give your left mouse trigger button for a new IP from these guys..  Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford certainly would.

Randy expressed these feeling whilst at E3 in an interview with VideoGamer:

“I keep waiting to hear what Bungie is going to do that’s not Halo, those guys are amazing, right? They walk on water! And the same with Infinity Ward. It’s like, dude I’m totally psyched to get my Call of Duty fix every year, but you guys are amazing! What else have you got? Can you give me something I haven’t seen before?  The folks that are innovating need to be rewarded so that the folks that are making big bets can take that risk,” he said.  It’s too big of a risk for Infinity Ward to do anything but what they’re doing, because there’s too much value and there’s really big scope for it.”

So the bottom line?  We would all love to see what IW and Bungie can do with a new IP but until the market establishes a more stable environment we are likely to see the “safe” plays like Halo 4 and Cod 7.  Hey at least GearBox are having a stab at something new in their upcoming title Borderlands – mind you the Brother in Arms IP is prettty much dead in the water after the last iteration so they had little choice, right?
