Over 20,000 sign Left4Dead 2 boycott petition
Wow Valve, the golden boys of gaming fans, seem to have pissed a lot of people off with this one! The announcement at E3 of a new Left4Dead seemed to send a cold shill along the spine of the hardcore gaming fraternity. A large cry of “WTF!” went up around the globe as the screens rolled in the Microsoft Presser. Well it seems that rather than the usual bitching and mass fan boy hating gamers have got together and produced something democratic – weird huh! At time of looking (12pm) the petition was well over 19,500 signatures so by the time this post goes live we will be looking at over 20,000 signatories. What’s the beef? I’ll let the post explain from Valve’s very own Steam community pages :-
“Left 4 Dead has not yet received the support and content which Valve has repeatedly stated will be delivered. Therefore, we – the members of this Left 4 Dead 2 Boycott – promise to abstain from the purchase of Left 4 Dead 2 until our requests are addressed.”
It is also the view of the group that this release will “Split the communities and decrease the quality of multiplayer gaming… The announced content of Left 4 Dead 2 does not warrant a standalone, full-priced sequel and should instead become updates (free or otherwise) for Left 4 Dead.”
Now I can fully appreciate the griefing on this one but come the fuck on guys! You buy a new COD, Madden, FIFA or Guitar Hero every damn year so what makes Left4Dead so special. “Oh it did not live upto it’s promise of cool DLC etc etc bitch bitch moan moan..”. So? You bought the product, you played the hell out of what it had to offer right? So stop winging! Sure it took the piss that Valve put out Left4Dead at full price in the first place, it should never of been more than a £30/$60 game as it was so short and limited. This whole thing goes down the route of do you pay for content or do you pay for quality? A topic we will be addressing in an upcoming editorial so stay tuned for that.
All in all, from what I have read about Left4Dead 2 (new director2.0, more weapons, dynamic geometry etc) it goes a little further than just a few maps and weapon changes. So why should Valve not make a few quid on something – others do and with much more regularity. You know that Valve are not going to screw the core gamer over so just show a little faith guys.

WE REQUEST:
-That Valve honor its commitment to release ongoing periodic content for Left 4 Dead.
-That Left 4 Dead 2 not be released as a stand-alone, full-priced sequel but as either a free update to Left 4 Dead or an expansion with full compatibility with basic Left 4 Dead owners.
-That Left 4 Dead owners be given discounts for Left 4 Dead 2, should it be released as premium content.
