Metroid Prime Trilogy coming to Wii… Again!
Nintendo are bringing their (excellent) Metroid Prime Trilogy to the Wii. Technically they are already there (the first two are backwards compatible and Prime 3: Corruption was released for the Wii in 2007), but Nintendo have tweaked the original Gamecube games, most significantly, adding Wii controls. However they have also made a few technical upgrade to the older titles, including adding bloom lighting, widescreen support and reducing load times for doors. The multiplayer from Prime 2 will also make a comeback, though it won’t support online play (?!?!). The 3 games will be released as a single, normal priced disc this Autumn in the United States. There is no official confirmation for a European release date.
At first glance, this seems a cop out. I have the original games and definately won’t be picking this up. However, many people missed the original two, and with the Wii control updates, along with the technical pick ups so it’s a nice opportunity to catch up on some of the best Nintendo games in the last 8 years… assuming you didn’t buy the ‘cube versions on eBay after picking up a Wii….
You could view this as stirring up noise before announcing a new Metroid. However, Retro Studies are apparently taking a break from the series so I’d be surprised to see a new title announced in two weeks, come E3. However, be sure to let us know what you think in the comments below, or in our BG forums.
