UPDATED: Ghostbusters going Sony exclusive? Preview Image

In some earth shattering news it has been announced that Sony Computer Entertainment have signed a deal with Atari to publish the new Ghostbusters video game being developed by Terminal Reality.

News is just coming in via Gameindustry.biz that the game, pencilled in for a June 19th release, has been picked up by the big boys at SCE. At this moment there is no news on the other versions of the game but you really have to cast doubts on Sony publishing a game on any other platforms than their own. So is it a Sony exclusive title? There is currently no comment from Atari or SCE but we will try and get answers for you asap.

This might be a shock, but you have to think that it is a very smart move by Atari. They need a large injection of cash and Phil Harrison might just have called some of his old Sony mates in on this one. It may just turn out, when the dust settles, that SCE have the right to publish the Sony platform versions and Atari will bring out the Xbox 360 version at a later date. The original Sony deal did obtain hem exclusivity for a few months on game launch with the PS2 and PS3 versions launching with the newly remastered Blu-Ray movie and the PSP version bringing up the rear a few months after.

UPDATED 14:00 GMT 6/5/09:

Ok so it seems part of my musings are correct on this. Sony and Atari have now made it known what the plans for the game are. Sony will handle all PAL territory publishing for Atari on this product. That means SCEE dealing out the goodies to Europe, Australia etc. NTSC news has not been clarified as of this point. Atari will be bringing out the DS, Wii and Xbox 360 versions of the game at a, as yet unknown, future date. It is also unclear if they will publish this themselves or find another partner publisher. The PS2 and PS3 versions will stay on target for their June release with the PSP still scheduled to follow a few months after.
