World of Warcraft Down – Hacked?

Servers/Realms throughout World of Warcraft experienced technical difficulties today and strange messages such as “game ends in 2 minutes” started appearing.

NPC characters vanished from many towns and some players experienced random “hearthstoning” to their “home Inn”.

There is still no word from Blizzard as to what happened but many players were discussing a hacking. Users were unable to  log-in or log-out and the game crashed for many. It is unknown whether this is a hacking or a server failure from Blizzard. No Maintenance was scheduled and Blizzard has never been hacked before leading to further suggestion of Server failure.

UPDATE: The outage is also on top of the seemingly unrelated trouble with the “Vindication Battlegroups” as servers on the “Misery Battlegroup” are also down.
