N+ (Xbox 360) Review

By Leigh - August 4, 2008 - 18:48 UTC

N+ is based on the internet hit game ‘N’ which was a flash game found all over the internet and was highly addictive. N+ is easily one of the best Xbox Live Arcade games to date and is one of the most entertaining but annoying games at the same time.

Read on to find the review of N+…

N+ doesn’t exactly have a story line like most games; instead it is a series of levels split into episodes (5 levels per episode). There are over 200 levels that come within the story, from easy to extremely hard (and trust me they do get hard!) One thing I love about N+ is the amount of content that comes on the game, some of the levels drive you nuts and when you finish the level that you’ve been struggling on for 2+ hours you have such a great feeling of satisfaction.

Although the game is only set in a few different colours, it still looks really impressive considering it is designed for Xbox Live Arcade whereas the majority of the other games on there look like crap. The game is extremely well polished and the color scheme works surprisingly well; this is possibly the only game (lately) which has used 10 colors in total without different shades and still looks better then the majority of games available on the Xbox Live Arcade.

Your fucked son.

The game play within N+ is truly where the game shines; it is possibly one of the most addictive games I have ever played, without a doubt. To sum up N+’s Game play, you are a ninja (surprisingly) and the aim of each level is to collect a token which opens the door to finish the level. However it isn’t that simple as there are numerous different enemies and objects in your path that you have to avoid or you will…  well… die, to put it simply.

Thankfully, N+ isn’t like the majority of Xbox Live Arcade games, the sounds that each object and enemy make are all different (for once.) Something which did make me chuckle occasionally is whenever you screw up a jump and plummet a few hundred feet to the floor, the thud which comes through the speakers as the ninja’s legs went through his arse would make me laugh (Sick yeah? But hey, I don’t care.)

Another real strong point of N+ is just how much content that comes with the game (and it’s only about 50mb.) The game when you purchase it comes with 50 chapters, each containing 5 episodes which have 5 levels in them and as I hate maths I’ll simply say that its one hell of a lot of content! Each episode on average takes about 5-10 minutes except from the later levels which can take hours just because of how hard they do become (they are all possible, it may just take you a while.) Also the game comes with 50 4-player co op levels which will keep you and your friends playing for a long, long time. Also within the game there is a huge level editor which you can spend hours playing around with creating whatever you want.

Another good thing about N+ which will keep the game going for a long time is the downloadable content which is available for the game. Recently a downloadable content pack was released for the game which costs 200 Microsoft points, it sounds expensive but when you look into the details of the game you discover there is another 200 levels in the pack. So in other words you’re paying 1 Microsoft point PER level, why don’t other games have downloadable content with prices equivalent to this?! THE VALUE!

I’m not one to usually recommend an Xbox Live Arcade game but this is one game I highly recommend to anyone who has played the N flash game or anyone who just wants to kill a serious amount of time without even realizing. This game has to be one of the best XBLA games, purely because it’s one of the best pick up and play games. Ever.
