PixelJunk Eden: First Impressions
PixelJunk’s latest game hit the Playstation Store today and I’m sure I was one of the first to download it. Mainly because of trophy support, I was eager to drop £5 on it.
With PixelJunk Monsters being such a hit, can this game live up to it predecessors?
Find out my first impressions after the jump!
Honestly, I haven’t played any other of the PixelJunk series, nor have I wanted to. This game’s only attraction was the trophies.
After the 107mb download of the game was completed and installed, I started the game with not a clue what I was doing. The main menu is your little guy jumping around the selections, eg. if you want to go to “Staff Credits”, you’d have to find it and jump into it. Didn’t like this at all. Seems like a complete waste of time.
I jumped into “Garden 1″ with still no clue. I began jumping around and swinging from flowers. Crazy, I know. Tutorials began flashing on the screen telling me how to do stuff, which is good considering I thought I wasn’t going to get any help. So after this I was told I had to collect crystals to extend the time. Time ran out shortly after because they didn’t tell me what the crystals were, and for the record they look NOTHING like crystals. Next I was told to collect floating pollen in order for me to make the plants grow, easy enough.
The aim of the gardens is to collect all the “Spectra” and plant all the seeds. At the start it seems simple enough but then it all gets a bit annoying. There are 5 spectra in each garden. In order to get all 5, you have to get 15 spectra, meaning that you have to get 1, then start again to get 2, start again to 3 etc. etc.
So far I have cleared the first garden and spent 90 minutes with the game. I like it. I think it will be a bitch trying to get all the spectra and the trophies aren’t as easy as I thought, but this game beats most of the games on the XBLA and is so simplistic, yet brilliant. With ten levels and the first one taking me over an hour and a half, the fact is this game is looking like a 10hr+ game for the one small price of £5.
Instant Purchase.
